How Can Washington Increase and Sustain Students of Color and Women in STEM?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

By 2030, two thirds of jobs in Washington state will require foundational STEM literacy or a STEM credential. We know there will be a significant gap between available STEM jobs and the graduates with the credentials to fulfill them, one that is even larger for historically underrepresented students. Forty years ago, the Washington state legislature created Washington MESA to increase the number students of color and women in STEM fields. In this session, panelists will discuss how our state, a major STEM industry hub, is doing with this goal and what it will take to support students to enter and sustain in these fields. Hear from current charter public school students pursuing STEM studies and a professional in the STEM industry about what they experienced in the classroom and beyond to support their journeys to STEM.
